Sorrento’s TMS3000 terminal management system helps companies
comply with the IRS ExSTARS program, which accepts printed reports
and reports sent using EDI. Although our customers have developed various
methods to comply with ExSTARS, many have told us that they’d
like to improve how they do it.
Sorrento teamed with Zytax Inc., the worldwide leading provider of
excise tax compliance technologies, to provide the most comprehensive
solution for ExSTARS. Zytax demonstrated its system at our Users Conference
in 2001. An interface was added to TMS3000 to transfer data to Zytax,
which then allows users to edit and send ExSTARS reports according
to their needs.
Because
Zytax lives and dies by keeping up with excise tax regulations, their
system
will never be outdated. Be careful that you don’t
get stuck with a supplier that may only have a short-term ExSTARS solution.
As alternatives to Zytax, some companies have created their own ExSTARS
reports while others rely on the printed ExSTARS reports available
in TMS3000.
Here
are 4 methods for you to consider:
- For companies
that want to send EDI reports - Zytax
TMS3000 versions 5.0 and above have an optional interface module
to Zytax. If you want to use this
method, a Sorrento field engineer would configure your system for
connection with
Zytax. Call Zytax
at (920) 617-7605 for information
on its systems.
- For
companies that want only printed reports from TMS3000
TMS3000 has ExSTARS reports that
can be printed (not EDI)
according to the government format (Form
720-TO
and Schedules A&B). These
optional reports can be added
to TMS3000 versions 5.0 and
above.
If you want to use this method,
a Sorrento field engineer
would configure your system
for use.
- For
companies that want to do
it all themselves
Sorrento chose Crystal Reports
as the reports generator within
TMS3000 to enable customers to
create their
own reports. Knowledgeable I.S.
personnel can use it to create
the ExSTARS reports.
- For
companies that have already created their own reports in
Excel
Sorrento can develop command
files to automatically export
the data
required for ExSTARS reporting
in
delimited format. You could
then import this data into
your Excel
report. This optional export
routine can be added to TMS3000
versions
5.0
and above. If you want to use
this method, a Sorrento field
engineer would configure your
system for
use.
