The chemical division of Citgo Refinery had a very serious problem in that their Waugh Blender was failing and they could not get parts to fix it. Most of the time the unit was “down” and they had to manually load each truck. This meant that each product had to be completely loaded before the next product could be loaded. On a three-component blended product the loading time could stretch out to hours. Citgo blends 16 different products through one arm to get over two hundred blends so just about every truck was taking some type of blend. Obviously the number of trucks that Citgo could get over the rack was very limited.

One PowerLoad was installed as a preset and blender unit. With its capability to blend up to 6 different components in a ratio blend the time it now takes to load a truck is measured in minutes. Citgo also takes advantage of the PowerLoad’s capability to change blend percentages on the fly and its unlimited number of recipes.
