DESCRIPTION
Adjacent-To-Line Monitor
The Adjacent-To-Line Monitor provides indirect measurement of process gas, liquid, or steam line radiation levels. For high-pressure, high-concentration, and high-temperature applications, the monitor allows detection of radiation levels without removing sample or interrupting the line.
In-Line Monitor
The In-Line Monitor provides direct measurement of process gas or liquid radiation levels for applications where pressure and temperature conditions allow placing the shielded detector assembly directly in the line. The integrated RM-80 Microprocessor and Customer Interface Junction Box (RM-80/CIJB) assembly couple with the stand-alone shielded detectors.
DETECTORS
The RD-2B, RD-10B, RD-11 and RD-12 detectors respond to gamma radiation. The ionization chamber detector generates a current signal that is directly proportional to the quantity of gamma photons that strike the tube. For adjacent-to-line applications, the standard ionization chamber or GM tube detector assembly mounts within a 2“ lead shield enclosure, providing protection from background or external sources. The enclosure mounts as close as two inches from the monitored process, and provides a steel window that allows the detector to view the process.
The RD-64 and RD-26 detectors respond to beta radiation. The beta-sensitive scintillator emits light pulses that couple to the photomultiplier tube, generating a current signal that is directly proportional to the quantity of beta particles that strike the detecting element. The 4“ lead shield for the RD-64 completely surrounds the process line and the detecting element, providing protection from external sources. Threaded flanges connect the RD-26 directly into the process line, with the lead shield protecting the detecting element from external sources.
RM-80 MICROPROCESOR/CUSTOMER INTERFACE JUNCTION BOX
The RM-80 Microprocessor provides data acquisition and control functions, alarm relays, analog outputs, and digital communications. The RM-80 database, programmed for the specific application, contains calibration constants for each detector, alarm setpoints, and history files. The front panel includes a green OPERATE indicator, horn, horn acknowledge pushbutton, and analog meter or digital display.
Mounted adjacent to the RM-80, the Customer Interface Junction Box (CIJB) provides terminal blocks for field connections and mounting for additional relays and output devices.
For process monitor applications, the relation between radioactive material concentration and dose rate is calculated to determine detector conversion factors for th RM-80 database. The conversion factors provide direct readout of radioactive concentration in units (e.g., _Ci/cc).

OPTIONS
Extended-range Configuration
Configurations for detector range that overlap provide extended-range monitoring, typically using the RD-2B and RD-10B detectors. RM-80 firmware develops a separate channel for the composite range, available to drive a meter or recorder.
Multiple Detector Configurations
The RM-80 provide the capability for connecting up to four GM tube detectors, up to two ionization chamber detectors, or up to two scintillator/PM tube detectors.
Temperature Compensation
To maintain linearity of operation for scintillation detectors, the monitor can provide temperature control to keep the detector temperature within an optimum range.
RM-23A Control/Display Module
The RM-23A Control/Display Module provides operator/monitor interface from a remote location. The microprocessor-based RM-23A communicates with the RM-80 over shielded twisted-pair cable. The RM-23A provides complete monitor control, and allows display and alteration of the RM-80 database. The RM-23A display radiation level and alarm/status indicators for each channel, and provides alarm relay drivers and 4 to 20 mA analog outputs.
RL-10 Local Indicator
The RL-10 Local Indicator provides audible and visual alarms and meter display of channel radiation level. The front panel includes a green OPERATE indicator, horn, horn acknowledge pushbutton, and analog meter. Located remote from the RM-80, the RL-10 provides alarms adjacent to the detector assembly or in an extreme environment.
