THE MODEL RT-10 Calibrator is used to perform routine recalibrations of the GA Geiger-Muller tube area radiation detectors. It is designed for use by qualified nuclear plant personnel, such as health physicists or radiation technicians. The RD-10 uses a Cs137 (beta/gamma) point source contained in a 4π lead shield to reduce the surface exposure to safe handling levels. Because of the calibrator‘s shield design and mounting technique, the nominal 10 _Ci activity of the point source produces low and high dose rates of about 30 mR/hr and 1.5 R/hr. |
THE MODEL RT-11 Calibrator is used to perform routine recalibrations of the GA ion chamber area radiation detectors. It is designed for use by qualified nuclear plant personnel, such as health physicists or radiation technicians. The RT-11 uses a Cs137 line source contained in a 4π lead shield to reduce the surface exposure to safe handling levels. The 100 _Ci nominal activity of the line source is distributed parallel to the detector axis, making the RD-11 ideal for calibrating ionization chambers. The shield design and mounting technique result in low and high does rates of about 1 and 10 R/hr. |
Theory Of Operation
The radioactive source of the RT-10 or the RT-11 Calibrator is removed from its protective carrier assembly, then attached to a mounting clip on the detector. This attachment ensures repeatable geometry and reliable calibration. Detector output is then compared to expected output, based on previous calibration corrected for decay of the Cs137 source (t1/2 = 30 yr). Radiation caution labels attached to the source holder inform the user of anticipated exposure rates. Each calibrator includes comlete instruction for proper and safe use.
